In the Comox Valley, wood heat generates 73 times more harmful fine particulate matter (PM2.5) than all other sources of home heating (even though only an estimated 36% of homes use wood for all or part of their heat).
Fine particulate matter is the number one air pollutant of concern in BC according to BC Healthlink.
